Google invests $1 billion to pay publishers for their content
Google is finally implementing new measures meant to give revenue back to publishers. The California-based company announces its $1 billion support to people who are posting news, articles, and other types of content on its platform.
The pledge is part of the new feature that Google will launch on iOS soon – Google News Showcase.
During the next three years, the $1 billion will be paid to license the new content, which will consist of teasers and relevant pictures created by writers. When clicking on them, the user will land on the original websites where the original content is published.
Two hundred publications have signed with Google until now, while Germany and Brazil-based users can already access the feature on their Android devices.
After the news became public, Google stock traded 1.39% higher.
