Job growth jumped in February

The hospitality and leisure sectors, the most battered of them all during the pandemic, added largest number of jobs

The Labor Department reported a surge of 379k in jobs creation in the past month. That’s an incredible surge, considering the market was looking for 197K new jobs.

Despite the latest gain, the US labour market is still 3.5 million short of the employment level reported before the pandemic’s emergence. Almost all the jobs came from the leisure and hospitality sector, with 355K. It was followed suit by healthcare with 46K and retail with 41K.

At the same time, the unemployment rate came ahead of the 6.3% consensus at 6.2%.

Following the reports, USA30 went up 0.7% at the opening.
