Despite selling its self-driving car business to Aurora, Uber will invest in the former
One of the most known ride-sharing companies – Uber –
announced that it is in the process of selling its self-driving car business.
Uber
and Aurora are in talks for the latter to buy Uber’s self-driving car unit. But
this doesn’t mean that Uber is walking away from this type of business. It is
investing $400 million in the Silicon Valley-based company. Following the deal,
Uber will take a 26% stake in the Amazon-backed startup.
According to Aurora’s representatives, the purchase “will
accelerate our mission and the delivery of our first product safely,
quickly and broadly.”
The deal is to be closed in the first trimester of 2021.
Following the news, Uber stock price traded almost 2% lower.
